11/7/2023 0 Comments Xenoblade 2 vs octopath travelerThat was about when I started to really like the battle system, and wish they had had everything unlocked from the start. I enjoyed the battle system just fine, but felt it took until everything was unlocked (bursting elemental orbs and being able to switch between more than two blades and doing chain attacks) for it to really hit its stride. You see all the enemies on screen and battle them by just approaching them and engaging, which some people like better. Xenoblade Chronicles 2, meanwhile, is an action-based RPG with no random encounters. Reviews also claim you'll have to do a bit of grinding due to difficulty spikes. This means you will be dealing with a turn-based battle system and random encounters, and sprite-like graphics and a smaller world. Octopath tends to follow the old, traditional JRPG style of games. But I've only played the demo for Octopath a few times. anything objectively "better." I can vouch for Xenoblade having put over 140 hours into it, and having very much enjoyed it, though it's a bit different in tone (more lighthearted) than its predecessor. So "better" here is probably up to personal preference vs. Well, to be fair, they are two very different games in the JRPG genre. The good news is, whichever of the three you get, your ears will be super pleased with you. Dodge offset and wicked weaves were still a lot of fun to me. It's also, unfortunately, seen as somewhat of a step back from its predecessor in mechanics, but as someone who isn't a genre aficionado, this wasn't readily apparent to me. EDIT: I make it sound as though Bayonetta 2's only detractor is its length, but that's not quite true. If you're the type who enjoys mastering action games, there's plenty here to love. But it is a shorter game if you're not the type to replay action games over and over. I think you know what you're getting here, and it's a fun one of those, and very pretty. There's also still some UI clunkiness and management sim duldrums, even after a great deal of patching.īayonetta 2 is Bayonetta 2. The gacha blade collection element, the slow combat at the start, and the revealing female outfits will turn many people off, though. The combat gets really fun, but it starts pretty dull. Xenoblade 2 has a hype as fuck anime as fuck story, lasts upwards of 60 hours. It has minimal interaction between protagonists though, and the chapters seem formulaic enough that I was turned off it. It's a 50+ hour romp with minimal grinding. Octopath has charming graphics and a delightful OST, with some cool combat mechanics. There are reasonable complaints with all of them. I can't speak to the quality of one being greater than any other. All three are great games, but they suit different tastes.
